Mary's Story - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for OCD

Mary's Story - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for OCD

“I’ve really enjoyed the process! My therapist was so friendly and encouraging, even about things irrelevant to treatment (e.g. my epilepsy and my new job). I think this had the biggest impact on my success actually. I was a little sceptical of phone appointments at first but after a couple I liked that you could talk within the comfort of your own home, there was no transport cost, and at times I actually felt I could open up slightly more over the phone as opposed to face to face. I’m quite confident anyway but for people who may be more nervous or shy I can see them benefitting from phone appointments!

I really liked the structure of my CBT treatment because it was very easy to understand and easy to monitor progress. Everything was explained so well and I now feel capable to tackle any lapses of traits, if they were to reappear. I also feel very reassured by my review appointment in 3 months time. Overall I’d recommend the service to anyone else suffering with OCD, and have done once already.”

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety-based disorder that can cause intrusive thoughts and repetetive actions.

A testimonial by 'Katy'

I am so glad I've worked through this programme and it is definitely 'the nudge along' I needed when I felt lost and stuck. I think that what was I needed all along, just some help really. I am very grateful for what this programme has done for me and even just being able to go out for dinner with groups of friends and people I don't know as well without overwhelming anxiety has been such an amazing turnaround for me.

I definitely feel like my old self again, but a better version, like Katy v2.0, with more control and more knowledge about myself and my body. I'm also better at identifying moments where self-care is needed instead of just running flat out until I've run out of steam and everything catches up with me.
